Grunting at Jeniza's comment the lead raider didn't seem moved or impressed by his talk of Josaline. The nomad cared little about what the Legate's underling had to say about her. He crossed his arms and let a deep sigh as he thought of what to say to the Legate.
"It is rare that our tribes come to discuss peace and partnership with the Crystal folk, I'd wager that this will be last time such an offer of benefit will be. Think about it, the lives of your villagers depend on it." The temper of the lead raider began to waver as he sat on his horse, eyeing Josaline and Jeniza with dirty looks.

The Red remained completely silent throughout their little exchange. She continued the conversation as if the rebel chieftain had not spoken at all.
"And how do you think one earns a title such as mine? I will tell you this, not by allowing confessed criminals to intimidate her into cooperation. You will learn, dog, that the Crystal Empire doesn't take kindly to threats. You will die, your men will die. Those unfortunate enough to survive, will be flayed and displayed across camp Gusto."
Behind her cold iron mask, the Red was smiling.

"The Red Legate." A grin spreads across his face. "My, my, seeing her now sends shivers down my spine." He chuckles "I had seen her before, back in my time as a Decanus. Still as lovely and terrifying as ever."

The head raider was taken aback by these words, though the only physical sign he showed was a slight blink and a disgruntled squint. Behind him his entourage began showing signs of unrest, maybe they had come out on the wrong day but all the feelings of barbarian-like zeal they had slowly turned into fear. Even the horses of the small raiding party began to get spooked, so much so that some reared and were on the break of bolting. The riders themselves weren't that fearful being that they were barely listening to the exchange between their negotiator and this Legate.
"Dogs?! Criminals?!" The head raider sounded as though he were furious, "The offer is over!"
He then led his spooked horse back to his men and they quickly bolted, no looking back, no talking back, just a beeline for the river crossing. The only technical response Josaline got was an arrow fired from one of the spooked riders that landed in the ground next to her with a loud *thunk*.

The arrow whipping past Josaline's horse was enough to spook the stallion slightly, though the Red merely chuckled at this. This vein gesture was more than enough reason for the Legate to sound the attack. Raising her arm, she signaled her men to carry out her plan. The Ballistae sentries let loose their ammunition into the group of fleeing horsemen, while the ranks of shielded soldiers marched forward at a steady pace.
From the treeline, a group of Miles with crossbows and javelins emerged from hiding, firing into the raiders. These archers were strategically placed behind the horsemen before negotiations began, using the cover of the trees to stay hidden. The raiders, though on horseback, were completely surrounded.

The raiders reacted quickly and formed a wedge formation, clearly trying to break through the weakest point. The ballistas had managed to skewer a couple of the horseman but they still had strong enough numbers so that when they connected with the Miles only four, not including the head raider, were able to escape. Viscously the remaining nomads lead their horses about swinging at any legionnaire close enough to them, but with such small numbers it didn't take long for them to be overwhelmed. With one last breath the leader let out a blood curdling war cry before he was thrown off his horse by some Miles.
The four raiders that escaped would most likely get captured on the way back to their homes while their comrades who fought laid strewn on the perimeter of Camp Gusto either dead or severely wounded.
